Fide Durben
The love of art is what pulses life through designer Fide Durben. To Fide, life is one big love affair. A native of Teno, Chile, Fide has always found her greatest happiness in the act of creating. Her appetite for life has led Fide to zestfully pursue many walks.
She moved to the Chilean capitol, Santiago to work in fashion design. She later started in glasswork through a class at the Bemis School of Art here in Colorado Springs. After seeing Dale Chihuly’s pieces at the Fine art Center she became truly inspired and decided to continue her education in galsswork. Mixing her new-found love of glass with jewelry design came naturally for Fide and blended well with her career in the fashion design industry.
“My inspirations include the sense of freedom travelling brought and still brings. The landscapes of my earlier travels by train through Southern Chile, beautiful places like Patagonia and the Island of Chiloe. It is just magical. The colors, people and the Andes mountains running against the Pacific. Lush from seasonal rains. Water has always had a powerful impact on me, from the ocean to the river, even rainfall…so romantic.
Artwork is also inspiring. And the people that are passionate about their work. It is important for me to speak of my feelings when designing. When I create and design I am passionate about my work. It brings me joy and I like to believe that the passion and joy is reflected in my work and that somebody will connect with and ultimately share those feelings when they wear one of my pieces.”
